Women’s Philanthropy Proudly Presents
Joy Ladin | Through the Door of Life
Professor Jay Ladin made headlines around the world when, after years of teaching literature at Yeshiva University, he returned to the Orthodox Jewish campus as a woman–Joy Ladin. In Through the Door of Life, Ladin takes readers on a distinctly Jewish journey through the transition process–not just of changing genders, but of creating a new self.
With unsparing honesty and surprising humor, Ladin wrestles with both the practical problems of gender transition and the larger moral, spiritual, and philosophical questions that arise. Ladin is a Fulbright Scholar and the author of seven books. She is the first openly transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution.
This event is being chaired by Lauren Iselin and Gilah Moses. To attend Connections, there is a minimum individual pledge of $180 to the 2014 Federation/Israel Campaign, and is due by the end of the calendar year.
Through the Door of Life, The Definition of Joy, and Coming To Life will be available for sale that evening.
The Book House at Stuyvesant Plaza will donate 20% of the proceeds to Federation. Ladin will be available to sign books.
