Today is May 27, 2018 -
On Thursday night, I attended Jewish Family Services’ 160th anniversary event honoring the Golub Family. Last week, I participated in honoring Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner, as well as Ethel Kagan at Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob’s annual dinner. The week before, I attended the Tech Valley Business Hall of Fame annual awards dinner, honoring Norman Massry. In April, I attended the Albany Jewish Community Center’s annual Pillars Award brunch. Next week, I have plans to attend the annual award dinners of Maimonides Hebrew Day School and the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy. Another half dozen events are on the calendar for the weeks ahead, including Federation’s annual meeting with award presentations.
One might think that I would be getting tired of eating chicken and hearing speeches. In truth, I actually get energized from all of these events. We are so fortunate to live in a community with such caring and dedicated leaders. Our community thrives due to the hard work and financial support of many special people. I am inspired when I hear all of their stories.
Not surprisingly, many of the honorees express similar sentiments at these events, such as:
“I grew up in a house in which volunteerism was prioritized.”
“It is important for my family to give back.”
“I am glad that I have a role to play.”
Yasher koach to each of our honorees this year. You serve as role models for all of us. We are so fortunate to have you in our community.
