Today is March 18, 2018 -
On Friday nights, my youngest son Dov and I enjoy reading together. Tonight we will read our new PJ Library book, Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg.
Through the vision of philanthropist Harold Grinspoon, PJ Library is a “Jewish Family Engagement” tool, which delivers Jewish-themed books and music to Jewish children around the world. In 2008-2009, Slingshot selected PJ Library as one of the “50 most inspiring and innovative programs in North America,” and in 2010, JESNA selected the program as “Best in Jewish Education of the Decade.”
In partnership with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and with the generosity of local corporate sponsors, Hugh Johnson Advisors and Homestead Funding Corporation, our Federation delivers PJ books and music to more than 450 local Jewish children.
Over the past year under the direction of Amy Drucker, Federation’s PJ Library Program Administrator, we have been expanding our program beyond simply providing free books. We have placed PJ Library racks in many of our area synagogues, nursery schools, and Hebrew schools; we have hosted and facilitated “story-time,” “story-walks,” and “Mommy and Me” programs. Our latest initiative, “Sifriyat Pijama B’America,” introduces the PJ Library to our local Israeli community with books and programming in Hebrew. Our first program is scheduled for Thursday.
All books, music, and programs are free and open to the entire (age-appropriate) Jewish community.
