Today is November 15, 2018 -
Back in August, I shared the exciting news that we are planning three concurrent trips to Israel during the February school break, February 15-26, 2017, with the intention of having synagogues use this trip as their congregational trip, but with all of us going together. My friend Rabbi Matt Cutler of Congregation Gates of Heaven wrote a beautiful piece for the current shul bulletin inviting his congregants to join him on the trip. I reprint the invitation here:
“I yearn to return to Israel for it is the land of my soul. Not to move there as a citizen, but to feel its earth beneath my feet. Touch those places that enrich my Jewish longings. Feel the vibrancy of the covenant that God established through Abraham. Let me extend an invitation for you to join me in February 2017 as our Jewish Federation leads parallel and concurrent trips to Israel. It is not like any other Israel trip—we are going as communities, but as one group. We will be going as a congregation with other area congregations. There will be no solicitations. Reform Jews, Conservative Jews, Orthodox Jews, and unaffiliated will share experience together, but also find ways for their own Jewish expression. There are special tracks for first time travelers, a different track for those who have been there before, and a track for teens.”
Registration is open. Program highlights can be found here. For trip details, please follow the link found on the highlights flyer.
Call your rabbi or me (783-7800 ext. 226) with any questions, or join us for an information session at the Federation on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. With us that evening will be our scholar-in-residence for the Jerusalem portion of the trip, Albany native Rabbi Sam Shor.
