Today is February 23, 2018 -

Repentance, prayer, and charity avert the severe decree.

“Written on Rosh Hashanah and sealed on Yom Kippur … but repentance, prayer, and charity avert the severe decree.”

Prayer: check.
Charity: check.

Repentance: On behalf of Jewish Federation, I’m sorry:

if we were a little too aggressive when we solicited you for a campaign gift.

if we called you too many times to invite you to a program.

if we did not thank you enough for your time or generosity.

if we spelled your name incorrectly on the honor roll.

if we did not publically recognize you.

if we brought in a speaker who was politically too far to the left.

if we brought in a speaker who was politically too far to the right.

if we did not allocate enough to your favorite charity.

if we wasted your time in a meeting.

if you offered advice that we didn’t heed.

if we did not greet you at the door with a smile.

if my apology list is too short and doesn’t cover your specific offense.

Our faults are many, but please do not blame your Jewish Federation. Too many people count on Federation and your support. If you are looking for a last minute gift to charity before the final shofar blast, please visit our website. (Was that too aggressive? I’m sorry.)

Thank you so much for all that you do. We are committed to trying harder in the New Year, and I look forward to hearing from you the ways that we can improve.
