Federation’s December board meeting is my favorite. That’s the meeting when the board votes on the allocations for the upcoming year.
The allocations committee has been reviewing applications, meeting with agencies, studying budgets, and wrestling with priorities in order to divvy up the funds that we have all generously donated to make our Jewish community the best that it can be.
Next year we will be funding Jewish education, students with individual learning needs, trips to Israel, camp scholarships, senior services and programming, adult education, campus activities, therapy sessions, transportation; and Jewish arts, music, and culture throughout our Northeastern New York communities. These direct allocations to our community partners are in addition to the life-changing and -saving funds we distribute to our partners in Israel and around the world. All of the allocations are in addition to the programs run out of the Federation office for education, seniors, security, literacy, PJ Library, combatting anti-Semitism, adult education, engagement, etc.
We spend a lot of time talking about the fundraising side of Federation. The December meeting reminds me that we really should be discussing the funds allocations side of Federation.
