B'nai Sholom Reform Congregation presents "The Sea," a 2025 joint Israeli-Palestinian project. Khaled, a 12-year-old boy from a Palestinian village, sets out from the West Bank to fulfill his dream of viewing the sea for the first time, even though he doesn’t know the way nor speak any Hebrew. When his father, an undocumented laborer working in Israel, learns that his son is missing, he leaves his job in search of him – risking arrest and the loss of his livelihood. This beautifully made film follows young Khaled on his innocent and heartfelt quest to fulfill his dream.
“The Sea” “offers a rare and nuanced view of contemporary Israel through an outsider’s perspective, exemplifying a powerful collaboration between Jewish and Arab storytellers.” Official Entry (Israel) - Best International Feature Film, 2026 Academy Awards and winner of 5 Ophir Awards, including “Best Picture of the Year.”
In Arabic and Hebrew with English subtitles – 93 minutes
