Join us for a demonstration of a Traditional Chaunukah meal by Elisheva Liberman on December 4th at 2pm at Canal Square Park in Cohoes, NY.

While shopping the Cohoes Holiday Market learn how to make Moroccan Salmon and Challah, a meal often eaten by Elisheva and her family on Chanukah.

The event is free and open to the public.

More about Elisheva:
Elisheva has lived all over the world in places like South Africa and Israel with her husband. While traveling they worked as Rabbi and Rebbestzin (Rabbi’s wife). As a Rebbetzin, Elisheva carries out a variety of duties including volunteering with local charities, organizing events, and hosting meals and guests for community members during the weekly Jewish holiday, Shabbat, all in addition to her job running an online furniture business. Elisheva’s cooking is defined by the laws of kashrut and the many places she has called home. She says Jewish food is not necessarily synonymous with bagels, brisket and chicken soup. Elisheva explains: “people think of Jewish food as eastern European food, but it's not, that just what we picked up over there... Jewish food is kosher food, and we have things from all over the world, because we’ve lived all over the world."

This demonstration is part of New York Folklore’s ongoing project ““What’s Cooking Capital District?” The project highlights food and foodways traditions found in the greater Capital Region of New York and is supported by HumanitiesNY. Our December 4th event is brought to you in conjunction with the Colonie of Chabad and the Cohoes Holiday Market will feature 10 vendors in wooden stalls open weekends Nov. 26 to Dec. 23.
