Congregation Berith Sholom Speaker Series: Cary Oshins
Friday, February 21, 7:30 p.m., at Berith Sholom and via Zoom

The next installment of our guest speaker series features congregant Cary Oshins, who will discuss “Composting: One Person’s Journey from Decomposition to Rebirth.” Cary has been a composting educator, researcher, advocate and enthusiast for four decades. Now mostly retired, he is still active in the U.S. Composting Council and New York State Organics Committee. Cary, with his wife Beth Hyde, moved to Troy in 2020 and are enjoying being part of the Berith Sholom community.

Cary will speak for 15 to 20 minutes, followed by an abbreviated service. He’ll use a Jewish lens to reflect on a career that has included home-, farm-, community-, municipal- and industrial-scale composting, and now begins to consider human composting as an end-of-life option. Be prepared for a lively discussion!
