Saratoga Jewish Community Arts, with support from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and Temple Sinai of Saratoga Springs, invites you to a panel discussion of the ground-breaking film A Raisin in the Sun. Part of SJCA’s Social Justice series, this virtual conversation will explore the film’s enduring relevance for today’s racial climate and for families navigating generational challenges.
Based on Lorraine Hansberry’s 1959 Broadway play—the first written by a Black woman to be performed on Broadway—the 1961 film version was directed by Daniel Petrie and stars Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, and Louis Gossett, Jr. Recognized by the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” the story centers on the Younger family as they wrestle with loss, faith, ambition, and the pursuit of dignity in the face of housing discrimination.
The film is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video.
