From Conflict to Conversation: Strengthening Dialogue Skills in Jewish Communal Life

In a moment when conversations can feel tense, polarized, or unproductive, this session focuses on how we talk across difference about the topics that matter most to us. Participants will learn practical mindsets and conversation skills for navigating hard conversations with empathy and respect—fostering respectful dialogue, deeper understanding, and a shared culture of civil discourse that strengthens trust, belonging, and community resilience.

Yoni Buckman is a Senior Educator at OpenDor Media. Through his work with Unpacked for Educators and ConnectED, Yoni empowers teachers, leaders, students of all ages, and communities to facilitate meaningful conversations that build understanding across differences. He helps learners explore Israel, Jewish identity, and complex contemporary issues with nuance, empathy, intellectual rigor, and humility. Drawing on diverse teaching experiences—from elementary, middle, and high school classrooms to national leadership programs and adult training programs—Yoni uses authentic dialogue, storytelling, and multimedia to make challenging topics accessible, engaging, and transformative.
