Professor Steve Stern traces the history of Jewish mysticism from its early Talmudic origins through the Middle Ages, to the creation of the Zohar, a foundational work in the literature of Kabbalah, to the Safed school of Isaac Luria, the most influential kabbalist in history.

Steve Stern is the author of several novels and story collections, including Lazar Malkin Enters Heaven, and The Wedding Jester, which received a National Jewish Book Award.
