Temple Sinai and Congregation Beth Shalom, in partnership with HMT (Home Made Theater) and sponsored by a grant from the Jewish Federation of NENY present: New Jerusalem; the Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation: Amsterdam, July 27, 1656 is a play written by David Ives, based on a true story that features the noted philosopher and scholar Spinoza, a Jewish-Dutch philosopher of Portuguese Sephardic origin whose writings and inquiries, purportedly challenging important tenets of Judaism and Christianity, have caused trouble for the Jews, who are not completely accepted by Dutch society.
