Coronavirsus and American Jewry: The Impact of this Moment

Throughout history, Jews have encountered pandemics. What can we learn about our community and how it has responded to prior health crises? In what ways is COVID-19 a different experience, and what are we likely to encounter as we move past this moment in time? Over this past year, Dr. Steven Windmueller has written extensively on the economic, cultural, and social implications of this significant event, drawing upon earlier periods including the 1918 Spanish flu and other threats to our society and the Jewish community.

We welcome Dr. Windmueller back to the Capital District, where he served from 1973 to 1985 as the executive director of the Greater Albany Jewish Federation (a precursor to our current regional federation). More recently, he served on the faculty of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, directing its School of Jewish Nonprofit Management (Z School) and later as dean of the LA Campus. Currently, Steven is working on a number of research projects, including a volume examining the impact of Donald Trump’s presidency on American Jews.

Free, virtual, and open to the community.

Sponsored by the Brandeis Baruch, Chaim Weizmann & Maimonides societies.
