Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival, supported by a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and sponsored by Temple Sinai, presents an evening of live, personal true stories performed by a talented troupe of storytellers -- and inspired by the renowned storytelling organization The Moth -- on Thursday, August 27 at 7 pm at Temple Sinai.
Storytelling – Inspired by “The Moth”
People from all walks of life are drawn to artful storytelling in every language and culture, throughout the world. Jewish storytelling has a long history, and Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival (and Saratoga Jewish Community Arts) regularly present popular storytelling programs. Their timeless, amusing and often apocryphal tales delight audiences.
SJCF’s new Moth-inspired storytelling program brings a new dimension. “Moth” stories are true, as remembered by the storyteller. Moth storytelling originates from The Moth, a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 by novelist and poet George Dawes Green in New York City, inspired by his childhood experiences of storytelling on Georgia’s St. Simons Island. The concept involves telling true, personal stories in a live setting, often based on a theme.
“The goal is to open a direct, engaging bond between the storyteller and the audience,” says Phyllis Wang, Coordinator of SJCF.
