In honor of Women's History Month, Women's Philanthropy welcomes the community for a special program and dessert reception with authors Shaunna J. Edwards and Alyson Richman.

Inspired by both authors’ own family histories, Edwards and Richman will discuss The Thread Collectors, a rich historical novel set during the Civil War. The novel follows two women: one a Jewish abolitionist in New York, the other a Black slave yearning for freedom in New Orleans, whose resourceful sewing to support their communities leads them both on dangerous journeys. As they undertake extraordinary risks to bring their partners home from the front lines, their pathways collide in unexpected and, ultimately, uplifting ways.

Shaunna Edwards has a BA in literature from Harvard College, and we are excited to welcome Alyson Richman back to the Capital Region. She is a best-selling author of several historical novels, one of which, The Lost Wife, is currently in development for a major motion picture

"Two of our most engaging authors! Alyson and Shaunna made the story of THE THREAD COLLECTORS come alive. They beautifully integrated their book talk segments to give a complex look at an important subject. I highly recommend having these authors at a book talk!" -Riva Gambert, Program Director, Contra Costa JCC
