Antisemitism: Old Wine in New Bottles | An Evening with Dr. Stephen M. Berk

ANTISEMITISM is the world’s oldest and most persistent hatred, not because Jews change, but because antisemitism continually mutates to fit the prevailing ideas of the time — repackaged again and again to appear new, like old wine in new bottles.

Dessert Reception | $25 per person
Catered by 518Kosher | Supervised by Vaad Hakashruth of the Capital District

Everyone is welcome! RSVP by Friday, May 29

Dr. Stephen M. Berk is a distinguished professor of history at Union College in Schenectady, New York. He is the former chair of the Department of History, director of the Program in Russian and Eastern European Studies, and faculty advisor to the Jewish Student Organization.

At Union College, he holds the Henry and Sally Schaffer Chair in Holocaust and Jewish Studies and has been a prominent figure in the field of Russian and Jewish history. His research and teaching focus on the Jewish involvement in the struggle for civil rights in the United States during the years 1954-1965, as well as the impact of pogroms on Jewish history.

Professor Berk has been a consultant to the Wiesenthal Holocaust Center in Los Angeles, and, in 1992, made a set of audiotaped lectures on the Holocaust. His well-received book on the pogroms of 1881-1882 deals with antisemitism in Russia and Eastern Europe and is an important contribution to the pre-history of the Holocaust in the Jewish heartland. Professor Berk has written articles on Russian and Jewish history, antisemitism, and the Middle East.
