Saratoga Jewish Community Arts and the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York are pleased to present, live on Zoom, the World Premiere performance of On Being Jewish Now, from The Braid, America’s leading salon theater company. The Braid’s professional actors will bring to life true stories of humor, hope, heartbreak, and resilience in a post-October 7 world.

See this landmark adaptation of Zibby Owens’ bestselling anthology, On Being Jewish Now, which spent 27 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list. Owens gathered stories of what it’s like to be Jewish amidst a rise of global antisemitism that’s rarely far from the local street corner. Owens told The Hollywood Reporter she gets “goosebumps” thinking of how Braid’s actors will bring thestories she shared in her book to life on the stage.

The Program

On Being Jewish Now is among the first theatrical works to explore the American Jewish experience in the wake of October 7.

You’ll be gripped by noted author Joanna Rakoff’s (My Salinger Year) tale of visiting a hidden underground synagogue in Spain. Laugh as famed actor Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) shares about being a 50-year-old man who breakdances. Feel the suspense as esteemed Rabbi Sharon Brous and her family encounter people in Vietnam demanding to know if they’re Jews. And be uplifted by Zibby Owens’s powerful self-reflection about the need to stand up and make one’s voice heard, plus other stories.
