I recently joined a new WhatsApp group through Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA). Group members weigh in on time-sensitive issues of broad relevance to the Federation system.
Wednesday morning, I woke up to the first post of the day, “Is JFNA opening a mailbox for the LA fires?” The outpouring of concern throughout the day from all over the country was overwhelming. JFNA was working with the LA Federation to try to get some handle on the need, and the rest of the country was impatiently requesting the needs assessment in order to direct the inundation of donations. It was truly a remarkable display of philanthropy from the Jewish community.
Other than understanding that the fire has destroyed indiscriminately and many have lost everything, we still do not have a handle on where the needs lie, but the LA Federation has opened a mailbox for contributions and will distribute funds where and when needed.
You may donate through our Federation here or directly to LA’s Federation here.
