While the High Holidays are behind us, the holiday season continues tonight with Sukkot, also called Z’man Simchatenu or Time of our Joy. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are times of deep personal reflection, whereas on Sukkot, we celebrate the fall harvest. We also remember God’s protection of our ancestors while wandering in the desert after the Exodus by building temporary huts (sukkot). Depending on climate and weather, many have the practice of eating all meals in a sukkah and some even sleep in a sukkah. My weather app shows only sunny days for the duration of the holiday, so we should be able to get out there often.
To help our community celebrate this year, we have a group of high school musicians joining us from our Israel partnership community of Eshkol. They will be arriving this weekend and performing in a variety of public and private venues throughout the community next week. Check with your synagogue, affiliated Jewish organization, KB, or me for specific details.
