The Jewish Federation of Northeastern NY is seeking an engaging and organized candidate to serve as PJ Library Coordinator. This is a year-round, $20 hourly, part-time position, with a flexible schedule culminating in 10 hours per week. Available immediately

Organizational Mission:

The mission of Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York is to build and maintain a strong and united Jewish community in order to ensure the creative survival and continuity of the Jewish people. It is the community’s central agency for meeting Jewish needs and articulating Jewish concerns in the Capital Region, Israel, nationally, and around the world.

Position Overview:

PJ Library is an international Jewish book subscription program for children and their families, which has become an indispensable tool to connect families to their local Jewish community. PJ Library in the Capital Region is administered by the Jewish Federation of Northeastern NY and is the cornerstone of the Federation’s effort to engage families with young children.  The PJ Library Coordinator is the face of our local PJ Library initiative and interacts with children, families, program partners, and at times, donors. This year, reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the PJ Library Coordinator will assist in the revisioning process for the initiative and will partner frequently with other Jewish and secular organizations.

The PJ Library Coordinator is responsible for managing the varied aspects of PJ Library in NENY including:

  • program planning and implementation
  • sustaining community partnerships
  • outreach and engagement to current and potential program participants
  • meeting all the reporting requirements of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation

The PJ Library Coordinator:

  • Has exceptional organizational, administrative and engagement skills.
    • They have:
      •  excellent written and oral communication skills with experience using various technological and media tools
      • experience in task management within time constraints and the ability to prioritize work toward efficient project completion
      • is familiar with educational methods and possesses the ability to lead and facilitate programs/events/groups experientially in addition to traditional frontal models
      • understanding of evaluation and follow up methodology
      • the ability to be self-directed, completing tasks on time while visioning out future potentials for the program
  • Has ability to build relationships with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds
    • They have:
      •  an understanding of Judaism, life cycle, traditions, modern Jewish American family life, and all its quirks
      • an understanding of and appreciation for public space Judaism, pluralism, and the multi-faceted Jewish community
  • Has experience with Jewish communal organizations and/or other non-profit agencies
  • Flexible schedule with the availability to participate in meetings and programs when required on evenings and weekends
