Summary
The Jewish Federation of Northeastern NY is seeking a creative, dynamic collaborator to join its team as Jewish Young Adult (YAD) and Havurah Coordinator. This is a year-round, $20 hourly, part-time position, with a flexible schedule culminating in 20 hours per week. Available immediately.
Organizational Mission:
The mission of Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York is to build and maintain a strong and united Jewish community in order to ensure the creative survival and continuity of the Jewish people. It is the community’s central agency for meeting Jewish needs and articulating Jewish concerns in the Capital Region, Israel, nationally, and around the world.
Position overview:
Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement and working in close partnership with volunteer leadership, the YAD and Havurah Coordinator supports work related to cultivating a culture of engagement, communal ownership, and vison for the future of Capital Region Jewry in addition to education, skills building, and leadership momentum within the Jewish Federation mission.
The YAD and Havurah Coordinator position plays a key role in the advancement of the Federation’s mission by working with Jewish young adults in their 20s and 30s to build community through Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, learning opportunities, and social programs as their own division of Federation. This year, the YAD and Havurah Coordinator will contribute to revisioning the YAD program in conjunction with the Harold Grinspoon Havurah initiative and will include administration, support, and training for new and existing Havurot. This is an amazing opportunity to get in on the ground floor to build a new and robust effort to engage meaningfully with local folks who are looking to advance their ownership over the future of our local Jewish community.

The YAD and Havurah Coordinator will
- Work with volunteer leadership team to plan, organize and implement a full calendar of young adult programming including, but not limited to, using the Havurah model for engagement and community building
- Create engagement points and connections to non-participating adults and those who are newly moved, newly married, newly graduated, new parents, and newly converted in addition to those seeking meaningful Jewish experiences that meet them where they currently sit on their Jewish journey
- Work with volunteer leadership and Federation staff to develop and implement a communications plan for YAD and Havurah events and initiatives including social media and e-communications.
- Work with the Grinspoon Foundation’s Havurah team and the JFNENY Engagement Director to complete monthly reports and updates
- Collaborate with other local and regional organizations working for the benefit of these cohorts in the community
- Participate in the Federation annual campaign initiatives and serve as an ambassador of the Federation and foster positive professional relationships within the Federation, agency colleagues, and other external stakeholders
- Set goals/metrics for success through data collection, engagement efforts, and visioning
- Other duties as discussed with and determined by the Engagement Director
Skills- preferred not required
- Experience with Jewish communal and/or other non-profit agencies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in addition to being technologically proficient and well versed in social medial tools
- Impeccable organization with the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently and follow projects through to completion
- Commitment to pluralistic Jewish community
- Knowledge of Jewish lifecycle, calendar, traditions
- Experience in project management and outreach/engagement
- Flexible schedule with the availability to participate in meetings and programs when required on evenings and weekends
