Chaplaincy Services of Federation reaches out to Jewish residents of long-term care facilities around the Capital District in the following ways:
- Rabbi Beverly W. Magidson is available at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center 2 days a week. She is also available to visit at the Massry Assisted Living and leads a monthly discussion there.
- Other nursing homes and assisted living facilities are visited on a monthly basis by Rabbi Magidson, our outreach chaplains, or volunteers as resources permit. Volunteers may do Shabbat and holiday programs, or one-on-one visits. Some assist Rabbi Magidson in her programs.
- An effort is made to reach every resident at the High Holy Days, Hanukkah, and Passover. Matzah is distributed throughout the region before Passover. Many facilities host model Seders led by volunteers before Passover or during the Intermediate Days of the holiday. Hanukkah candle-lighting can be led by individuals, families, or groups.
