Joint Event featuring Micah Halpern

Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York is pleased to announce the upcoming Joint Society Event featuring Micah Halpern on Monday, January 23, 2012, 7:15 p.m. at Congregation Ohav Shalom, 113 New Krumkill Rd, Albany.

His topic for the evening will be Why are the Palestinians winning the media war and what can Israel do about it? In addition to Halpern's presentation, the evening will begin with a catered light dinner and will conclude with sumptuous desserts.

Super Sunday 2012

Federation is going all out to make the Capital Region Jewish community the best Jewish community in America. More than 100 volunteers will be calling from the downtown Albany offices of Merrill Lynch for this year’s Super Sunday Phonathon from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on January 29, 2012. The money raised helps keep Jewish community thriving— locally, in Israel, and in 70 countries worldwide. As a most-trusted name in charitable giving, Federation’s Annual Campaign is an incredibly responsive grassroots effort dedicated to strengthening and supporting our Jewish community. Funds available for enriching Jewish experiences!

Deadline for applications is March 2, 2012.

Federation announces the availability of funds to enable area children and college students to participate in overnight Jewish camps, Jewish travel experiences, summer and year-long Israel experience programs and other programs that provide Jewish enrichment and inspire Jewish continuity.  Decisions are based on financial need. Founded with knowledge that there is power in the work of the female collective, TOV (Tikkun Olam Volunteers) will take action to improve life in the Capital Region through hands-on involvement with several key non-profit organizations. Women’s Philanthropy and the women of NextDor: The Next Generation of Leadership have joined together to form TOV (Tikkun Olam Volunteers).

Obama: ‘All options’—including diplomacy—still on with Iran

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- All options are on the table for Iran, but a diplomatic solution to the impasse over its nuclear weapons program is still a possibility, President Obama said in his State of the Union address. Obama said that Iran was more isolated than ever because of the intensified sanctions he has introduced or encouraged. ... Obama also referred to the defense alliance with Israel, but did not mention -- as he has in past speeches -- his efforts to achieve Israeli-Palestinian peace. "Our ironclad -- and I mean ironclad -- commitment to Israel’s security has meant the closest military cooperation between our two countries in history," he said to a standing ovation.
