Five members of the congregation Woodstock went on a pilgrimage to Alabama and Mississippi to visit many of the iconic sites of the civil rights struggle of the 1950s and 1960s. Linda Bodner and Myra and Jerry Schwartz will share their experiences and insights on their memorable visit to Birmingham, Selma and Montgomery, Alabama and in Philadelphia, Mississippi, where the Freedom Riders Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney were murdered by the Klan.

The trip also focused on the Jewish connection to the civil rights movement. They had the opportunity to visit a historic synagogue in Selma that was built in 1899 and to meet and talk with Jewish residents in Birmingham and Selma. A film After Selma: The Fight for the Right to Vote Continues will be shown.
