Congregation Shaara Tfille and The Jewish Community Center of Saratoga Springs is delighted to host a Bus Trip to the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre in Lenox, MA to see Shakespeare & Company’s production of “Golden Leaf Ragtime Blues,” followed by a talkback.  The trip is on Sunday, October 23, the bus will depart at 11 a.m. sharp and return at approximately 6 p.m. to the front of Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Wilton Mall; additional arrangements can be made for an Albany bus pick up. The bus trip costs $36 per person which includes snacks on the bus and entrance to the play.

Golden Leaf Ragtime Blues, written by Charles Smith and directed by Raz Golden was developed by American Blues Theatre Company in Chicago in 1987 and the HBO new writers workshop in 1984. It tells the story of a young African American boy and an old Jewish man who are thrown together because of circumstances beyond their control. The two form an unusual friendship when they discover through stories and music that they have more in common than anyone would ever believe. “Golden Leaf Ragtime Blues” illustrates how our basic needs and human emotions transcend the barriers of race, religion and age. Director Ian Wolfgang Hinz shares this assessment of the play, "An exploration of prejudice and humanism...asks us to confront our human capacity for seeing the ‘content of character’ present in all of us.”

Reservations are required and it is recommended that you make your reservations ASAP due to limited seating on the bus. The reservation deadline is October 17.

All participants must have had their Covid vaccinations, and masks on the bus and in the theatre are optional.  To make a reservation or more information, please contact Barbara Opitz at 518-428-2703 or barbaraopitz47@gmail.com.
