Music in Prayer: A Course of Discovery - Have you ever asked: Where did that melody come from? How does the Cantor decide what to sing each week? What is that melody? I recognize the tune, but not the words! What happened to the tune I know to this prayer? The answers to these & similar questions are the topic of study. Through listening to examples & discussion, we will explore how & why music was integrated into Jewish prayer & the many factors that contribute to the rich variety of styles & sounds that are heard in our services today.
