Community Event with Professor Gil Troy at Skidmore

Jewish Federation of NENY, The Jacob Perlow Fund, and Saratoga Jewish Community Arts with Temple Sinai and Skidmore Office for Jewish Student Life is pleased to sponsor a community event with leading Presidential Historian Professor Gil Troy to speak on The Zionist Ideas:  Visions for the Jewish Homeland, Then, Now and Tomorrow.

Professor Troy a distinguished scholar in North American History at McGill University, is an award-winning presidential historian. His books include The Zionist IdeasMoynihan’s Moment:  American’s Fight against Zionism as RacismThe History of American Presidential Elections 1789-2008, and the best-selling Why I Am a Zionist.  One of the top 100 people who received an award for “positively influencing Jewish Life,” Troy wrote The Age of Clinton: America in the 1990s and ten other presidency books.  Featured on CNN’s “The Eighties, The Nineties, and The 2000s,” Troy publishes broadly, including writing essays for The New York Times’ “Campaign Stops” and a weekly column for The Jerusalem Post. He writes a regular column for The Daily Beast, putting current events in historical perspective and has been widely quoted in American and Canadian media outlets.

Professor Troy was born in Queens, New York. He attended Jamaica High School, and received his Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and Doctorate from Harvard University. Troy taught history and literature at Harvard from 1988 to 1990 and has taught history at McGill University since 1990.

“Professor Troy has spoken in the Capitol District several times over the years, but this is his first venture into the Saratoga/North Country region, and we are delighted to have the Skidmore Campus as the site for this very special talk and dialogue,” says SJCA Coordinator Phyllis Wang.
