The Secure Community Network (SCN), the official safety and security organization for the Jewish community in North America, will host a webinar on 14 July, from 3 to 4 p.m. ET, to review considerations for Jewish facilities in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent opinion relaxing restrictions on concealed weapons.

In New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn., Inc. v. Bruen, the Court found it unconstitutional for the state of New York to require an applicant to demonstrate that “proper cause exists” before a concealed weapon license can be issued. At the same time, the Court reiterated its previous opinion that guns may be banned in “sensitive places” as reasonably defined by states.

Panelists will discuss the potential security implications of changes to state gun laws and recommendations for related policies, procedures, and training.

The webinar will provide:
- an overview of the Court decision
- practical advice on how to develop firearms policies for security personnel, staff, facility users, and visitors
- description of the training SCN provides to identify suspicious activity, prepare for and respond to active threats, and provide first aid
