Austria: Facing Its Past for a Better Future
In Memory of Jack Zuckerman
With Hannah Lessing, Director of the National Fund of Austria for Victims of National Socialism
and Phyllis Wang, Chair, Jewish Federation, 'Memorial to Jack Zuckerman’
Hannah Lessing, director of the National Fund of Austria for Victims of National Socialism since 1995, will be reporting on changing representations of the Holocaust and other Nazi crimes in public spaces in Austria, over the last several years, including the most recent "Shoah Wall of Names" in Vienna, dedicated on November 9, 2021. The wall has 160 granite stones with 64,435 engraved names and birth years.
Among the names are survivor Jack Zuckerman’s (obm) father, who was deported after they escaped to Belgium,
and survivor Hedi McKinley’s grandmother—both murdered in Auschwitz.
